A Theory of Human Motivation
The theory of Human Motivation is applicable to the project being studied. This theory categorizes individuals’ needs into five levels in a hierarchical manner beginning with physiological, safety, (social needs) love/belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Each of these stages is attributed to a particular level of internal sensation that a person must meet to complete their hierarchy. The assumptionof the framework is that individuals strive to satisfy needs that are at the bottom of the pyramid as they progress upwards. Therefore, people focus on satisfying physiological needs first before progressing to other needs.
The first level consists of physiological needs that are vital for survival, including food, shelter, and clothing. The second level of this framework is safety, which constitutes financial security, health and wellness, and safety against accidents and injury. The third level, social needs include various aspects of love/belonging such as friendships, love, romantic attachments, family, social groups, and community groups. The fourth level of the model constitutes esteem needs. individuals need respect and appreciation.
